Traveling in the Southern Hemisphere

We have made it to New Zealand and are ten days into the trip. I won't be sending out any further emails, but posting to the blog, instead. That way if you do not care about this stuff, you won't be bothered further. If you want to keep up with the travelogue, go to KenandRandi.blogspot.com . You can sign on to get notice when a posting has been made, or if you would rather just check the blog periodically, that works too! By posting to the blog, I can also add photos to the commentary. (That is, I will post to the blog when I get a connection!

Our flight to Auckland was a bit delayed in San Francisco. We were two hours on the ground, waiting for the nearby lightening strikes to move on and thus allow the ground crew get the luggage, etc. loaded. Our connecting flight from Auckland to Christchurch was rebooked before we even crossed the international date line! The delay actually made it easy to adjust to the jet lag -- we checked into our place of lodging, then did a walkabout towards the city center.

The center was actually fenced off for several city blocks, due to the damage caused by the earthquake 15 months ago. Some awfully beautiful works of architecture will have to be demolished and cleared away, including the Cathedral in the center of the city and some other large churches, because of the non-repairable damage to the structures.

Stay tuned -- more later.
